Description of the role

As an Executive Officer you will support the Executive Director and Senior Advisers to achieve the strategic objectives of the client. The duties of the role vary day to day and can include operational, tactical and strategic activities.
You will have the ability to work across Government and with peak Indigenous organisations and to build and maintain strong strategic relationships with Traditional Land Owners and other key stakeholders such as Land Councils and Regional Councils, and within Township Lease communities.

Key Responsibilities:

Stakeholder engagement

  • Working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders across different levels of government, industry, the private sector and communities to identify opportunities and achieve policy objectives.
  • Bringing key matters to the Executive Director and Directors attention.
  • Representing the Executive Director at internal and external forums and meetings.
  • Liaise and negotiate with high-level internal and external stakeholders to support business communications and high-level strategic objectives.
  • Represent the client when interpreting intent and conveying it through the provision of guidance and advice to stakeholders.
  • Harnessing information and opportunities for the broader benefit of Aboriginal Traditional Land Owners

Policy and procedure

  • Ensuring the executive team is supported in carrying out its responsibilities to effectively deliver the client's key priorities.
  • Undertake secretariat duties and contribute to research and analysis, strategy and policy development in support of the executive team.
  • Ensure the executive team are provided with timely and accurate advice and logistical support
  • Prepare a variety of communications products on a range of strategic and operational matters considered sensitive and very complex, including; preparation of briefs, reports and other correspondence on behalf of the client and Executive Director.Undertaking work activities with an awareness of their possible impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for the office.
  • Obtaining an in-depth understanding of relevant legislation and policy frameworks.

Supervision and management

  • Effectively managing competing priorities and strategic directions when achieving team planning and project outcomes in line with the office goals and objectives.
  • Work closely with the Executive Assistant to ensure the day to day and future planning priorities of the Executive Director are met.
  • Display astute judgment, flexibility and discretion.
  • Monitor high-level deliverables and undertake reporting. Assist with supervision and management of team workloads and monitor progress of projects, including the preparation and quality assurance of briefings, correspondence, minutes and advice relating to client business.
  • Supervising the development of lower classification levels; building team capacity through coaching and encouraging career development.
