Job Opportunity: Waste Transfer Station Operator
Location: Palmerston Region

Do you have experience operating heavy machinery and a passion for maintaining safe, clean environments? We're seeking a motivated Waste Transfer Station Operator to help deliver essential waste management services.

About the Role:

In this hands-on role, you will perform multi-operational tasks using a forklift, backhoe, and front-end loader at waste transfer stations. You'll work as part of a dedicated team, ensuring the efficient and safe disposal, processing, and stockpiling of waste and recyclable materials in accordance with policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain waste transfer stations on a day-to-day basis.
  • Use plant and equipment to handle waste and recyclables safely and efficiently.
  • Deliver friendly and helpful customer service, assisting with offloading and recycling inquiries.
  • Identify and report non-conforming or unauthorised waste materials.
  • Ensure waste is processed appropriately and that the site remains safe and tidy.
  • Complete daily inspections and minor maintenance on plant and equipment.
  • Participate in safety documentation processes and promote continuous safety improvement.
  • Safely operate vehicles and equipment per operational policies.
  • Work rotating shifts, including weekends, across multiple transfer station sites.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience operating forklift, backhoe, and front-end loader.
  • Strong awareness of safety protocols.
  • Solid understanding of waste management operations and environmental considerations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide high-quality customer service.
  • Physically fit and able to work in an outdoor environment in varying conditions.
  • Flexible with working hours, including weekends and rotating rosters.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license – C-Class
  • Tickets/licences for operation of relevant plant and equipment (forklift, backhoe, front-end loader)
  • White Card (Construction Induction Card)
